bullet point Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROMs RM Network Installation Instructions

In order to ensure that the Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROM server installation is
compliant with the RM network requirements, please follow these instructions:

1. Run the Server installation as normal.
2. Move the Learnpremium folder from:
    C:\Inetpub\wwwroot to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\WebComponents.
3. Open the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Management window.
4. In the Intranet website, create a new virtual directory using the same name as
the virtual directory that was created by the installation program (eg ScienceYear 7
for the Science Year 7 disk). Point the virtual directory to the folder :
D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\WebComponents\Science Year 7 (change the folder
name as appropriate for the disk). Ensure that both “Read” and “Run scripts”
    permissions are set.

5. Right-click on the newly created virtual directory and select Properties.
6. Select the Documents tab.
7. Check if default.htm appears in the list of default documents. If not, click the Add
button, type “default.htm” without the quotes) and press OK.
8. You can also disable the “Log visits” and “Index this resource options”, which both
appear in the Home Directory tab. This will improve performance and minimize the
    use of additional system resources.

Please note that this procedure will disable the Uninstall feature.

With several Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROMs installed on the server, IIS should
resemble the following structure after the above changes have been made:

Web [PORT 80]\ROOT\Learnpremium
Web [PORT 80]\ROOT\Learnpremium\ScienceYear7
Web [PORT 80]\ROOT\Learnpremium\MathsYear7

If the installation program has enabled the default IIS website, you may want to
subsequently disable it in order to improve the security of the RM server.

Files should generally not be installed on the server’s C: drive, as a security precaution.

Some of the images and buttons don't appear. What should I do?

Ensure that Macromedia Shockwave 8 and Flash player 6 or higher have been installed on your machine. The readme file on your Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROM contains details of how to access these. Or visit www.macromedia.com and follow the download instructions.

bullet point

I can't open the pdf version of the teacher advice.

Ensure that Acrobat Reader has been installed. Details of how to do this can be found in the readme file on your Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROM. Or visit www.adobe.com and follow the download instructions.

bullet point

The content does not fit on the screen properly. What should I do?

The content is optimised for a screen resolution of 800 x 600 or higher. If your screen is running at a lower resolution then you can change the resolution by doing the following:

1. Open the Control Panel on your machine.
2. Double-click on the Display icon.
3. Click on the Settings tab.
4. Adjust the resolution.

Note that some computers have a hardware limitation that will not allow you to increase the screen resolution.

bullet point

I am having trouble getting the onscreen keypads and numberpads to work.

Make sure you place the cursor in the box where you want the text or numbers to appear. Then click on or drag the letters or numbers into the box. You can use your own keyboard and mouse to enter letters and numbers as well
.

bullet point

Some of the activities give negative feedback when the right answer is input – why?

Make sure you always insert a space after the thousands digit, and also after the final digit, before the unit of measure (eg N or kg).

bullet point

Some of the questions in my submitted test have no comments or feedback.

Comments and feedback are only visible if you have attempted to answer the question.

bullet point

When I use the feedback from a test question to revisit a lesson, I can’t get back to the test again.

Close the window and you will return to the test – feedback always opens a new window.

bullet point

I have lost my record of the customised password used to enter the Create and edit a test area.
What can I do?

You will need to uninstall the product and reinstall it, and use the default password that can be found in the instruction booklet that came with the CD-ROM. You will still be able to access any tests you saved.

bullet point

I need to uninstall the product. Will I lose my saved tests?

No, the uninstallation program removes the application files, and not your saved tests.

bullet point

Why can't I hear sound when I activate a sound button?

Ensure you have suitable hardware (a sound card) and Flash player installed.

bullet point

Where can I get further technical advice?

If the answer to your problem is not included above, please get in touch by emailing contact@learn.co.uk or by calling 020 7713 4059.

bullet point

Can I open tests from other Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROMs?

No, since the diagnostic links that are provided in test feedback for students refer to lessons in each CD-ROM that would not be found on other disks. Make sure you label each test you save clearly so you have a record of what year and subject it has been created for.

bullet point

How do I ensure pupils cannot access the Create and edit a test section?

Make sure you close the Learnpremium Interactive CD-ROM programme before you allow pupils to use it (they can open and complete a saved test you have created at any time, but won't be able to edit it). Once you have logged in to the Create and edit a test section, your password is remembered for the duration of the session. At any point you can open a saved test to edit it by going to create and edit a test and entering your password.

bullet point

If, on installing any of the Learnpremium CD-ROMs and opening the relevant program, I am presented with a pop-up box that states, 'The web page you have requested is not available to view offline' what should I do?

You should see that beneath this message in the pop-up box there are two options - 'Stay Offline' or 'Connect' - you should select the 'Connect' option by clicking on the button and the opening screen of the appropriate
Learnpremium program should load.

bullet point

The new version of MSDE is causing me a problem when I try to install the CDs to a network. What do I do?

To use MSDE r1, the help file needs to be changed to reflect the following:

  • Extract the MSDE files to their default location : C:\MSDERelA
  • Start up a command prompt: start -> run -> cmd
  • type "cd \MSDERelA"
  • then type "setup BLANKSAPWD=1"
  • allow the installation to proceed as per old instructions.
